In fact, the more words you incorporate and the more complicated your grammar, the more difficult it is for AI to understand your prompt and adequately depict your concept. However, its relevance and usage have greatly diminished in modern times. /opt The /opt directory is frequently used to store manually compiled software, which means it is built from source code instead of being installed from distribution repositories. Within this directory, applications are usually stored in /opt/bin, while libraries are placed in /opt/lib. As a slight deviation, another location where applications and libraries are occasionally installed is /usr/local. By tech enthusiasts, I mean those who use their PC to drive heavy tech development or modification software. However, MSI gaming laptops are some of the reliable and loveable portable gaming PCs that you can find in the market, even in 2023 and beyond. Some current gaming laptops that will impress you are the Titan GT Series, Cyborg Series, Katana Series, and Raider GE Series. In this article, I’ll review the laptops below and give you my verdict of each. MSI Gaming Laptops to Consider in 2023 MSI Titan GT77 Review MSI Cyborg 15 Review MSI Katana 17 The MSI Raider GE78HX Smart Touchpad MSI Titan GT77 Review The Titan GT77 (2023), also loosely referred to as the MSI GT77 or Titan GT77, is a member of . MSI called this one the ultimate powerhouse. It boasts interesting specs that make for stellar performance. MSI MSI’s gamers' choice series The display is impressionable — a 17-inch, 4K display, with a 144Hz refresh rate. The total weight is 3.3kg. Specs: 13th Gen Core i9-13980 HX processor NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU (16 GB) 2 TB of SSD internal storage that enables it to drive heavy games at the utmost settings 5.5 GHz performance core and 16 efficiency cores 64GB DDR5 RAM and 4 memory slots, which are upgradeable to a total expansion of 428 gigs No HDR support Dual 2-terabyte NVME SSD slots. The scored over 21,000 graphics at 185 frames per second (fps) and 1440p, and the stress test was over 99%. What more can you ask for? Time Spy Test The basic price is around $4,299 and can increase based on your required modifications. Price: MSI Titan GT77 Gaming Laptop Design: It has RGB lighting for the keyboard display and the base panel. The Cherry mechanical keyboard sits pretty in a shallow compartment, with moderately spaced keys. So, it offers a very good typing experience, especially if you derive pleasure from keyboard sounds. The light is always on display at the back, beaming in its glorious rainbow pride. The MSI badge on the lid also flashes elegantly. The entire back has cooling vents from side to side, all the way. Although the keyboard seems to be forced to accommodate the numbers on the right side. It offers two Thunderbolt ports. In addition, there’s a mini-display port connection, an SD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, three Type A USB 3.2 connections, and an Ethernet action port. Ports: Cons: What you may not enjoy about it is that the fan screams even under normal use, and goes even higher when used to drive heavy applications. Despite the super performance qualities, it still has a 720p webcam. I would have expected more from a computer at that price point. At 15.6 by 12.9 inches, you can expect the weight to be heavy. But hey, what high-performance gaming laptop isn't heavy? There are different versions of the Titan GT77, especially by year. MSI Titan GT77 2023 is the latest, as of this review. Some other laptops offer at least the 1080p video option. The microphone isn't the best. Does not even come close to a dynamic mic sound. But it's audible enough if that's what you're looking forward to. It offers a webcam shield. If you take Snowden seriously, that's great for you. And automatically disable the webcam. A typical web browsing session and other runs like typing will max out the battery at about 2 and a half hours. So, you can expect less if you are gaming on battery power. But who games on battery power anyway? MSI Cyborg 15 Review The MSI Cyborg 15 is for those looking for a . It sits pretty well on your table at only 4.3 lbs (1.59kg) and is even easy to carry on your back. It's not the best design when it comes to appearance, but it’s just there. The chassis seems to be a remake of the . It's super thin, too. Overview: budget gaming laptop MSI Stealth 15 MSI Cyborg 15 Design: This one is super light and sleek. Not much design paparazzi. It has a single fan, which means you cannot drive it to the limit that you can push most gaming laptops to. But hey, at an approximately $1000 USD price point, that's not so much of a killjoy. Specs: Intel Core i7 13620H (or 12650H, depending on your option) processor. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU 8 GB of VRAM (or 6), 16GB DDR5-4800 RAM. Samsung 1024GB, with only 867GB accessible memory. Extendable SSD slot. 15.6-inch screen,144HZ refresh rate, 4 P-cores, 4 E-cores, and a total of 16 total threads. So the performance is lower in comparison to most of the 2022 and above game machines, whether from the company or other companies. The RAM will make it lag when it runs AAA games; so, it best serves mid power-consuming games, but it will definitely serve video editors. USB C port with DP, HDMI 2.0, 2USB-A.3.2, an Ethernet connection port, and a 720p WebCam. Ports: You can’t expect much from a 53.4Wh battery. And that is a disappointment for a portable gaming PC. Even non-gaming devices have 68WH, and even 97Wh battery capacity. But that may be MSI's way of telling you, “hey, your price does not deserve a better power option”. Power: Although, when it comes to the runtime, it does fairly well, in comparison to some other laptops like the MSI Katana 15, the , or even the . It is definitely one of the best MSI low-power consumption laptops in the market. At maximum load and brightness, you can expect a run time of about 2 hours and 15 minutes. But there is a limit to your expectations because this is a budget gaming PC. Aorus 15 XES 90 Wh ASUS TUF Gaming A16 The backlit keyboard does not offer much; there is no RGB, just a light blue backlight. The keyboard spacing is not the best, but it isn't too bad, too. It has pretty decent arrow keys, but the number pads are just meh —squeezed in. Keyboard: Cons: No Thunderbolt port There is only a single fan You have no SD card slot The color accuracy is questionable, almost like a blurry version of most color schemes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1NrdAKAHdc&embedable=true The Verdict At an entry price of approximately $1000, this is a decent machine, but not worth being named a "cyborg". Honestly, with such mid-range performance and an unmotivating screen quality, this is not a professional gaming laptop. It's like what you'd gift your 10-year-old who is just getting into the world of gaming, but you don't want them addicted. MSI Katana 17 Gaming Laptop Review **Overview:**The MSI Katana 17 is one of MSI's GeForce RTX40 series laptops optimized for memorable gaming performance. To be honest, the company tries to impress itself by being dedicated to heavy-duty laptops, which is mostly great, but sometimes exaggerated. The design is quite smooth; in fact, it is too sleek for a gaming laptop. The base is also thin (not ultra-thin) in comparison to most others. Underneath is the heating vent, which proves effective both as a design and as a heat dissipation system. On the side of this 2.795kg (6.08 lbs) machine, there is a Type C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, one HDMI port that supports up to 4k at 120Hz output, a USB 2.0 port, and USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, that will accommodate more recent hardware such as keyboards or a mouse. Ports: Specs: 13th Gen Intel 8 Core i7-13700H processor 1TB SSD NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 and 16 DDR5 RAM, extendable up to 64GB 2 ultra-high-speed NVME SSDs Has Bluetooth 5.1 720p HD WebCam The Katana 17 price is €2000 (currently only available in Germany). Price: The keyboard backlight gives RGB lighting that can make your dark game room glow, giving the Jedi sword aura. It gives Alienware vibes but is not as strong as some of the company's other devices. The WASD keys and the ARROW keys are translucent, with obvious indicators that they serve gaming purposes. Number pads are available, but like the other ones reviewed here, they barely have enough room to sit on the laptop. By visiting the MSI performance center, as a user, you can select your unique keyboard (backlit) color. Keyboard and Lights: White LED lights indicate that the laptop is using the integrated GPU, and when it is orange, that's the discrete GPU. Design: With MSI Katana 17, allows its customers to create their unique gaming laptop. So, you should check out the MSI Center for possible things you can customize, such as the LED lights, the light color patterns, and programmable keys. Micro-Star International With this series, MSI introduces the Cooler Boost 5 with dedicated thermal solutions with up to six heat pipes for a double fan system. That is more impressive than the Cyborg 15. This laptop has an extended heat pipe diameter and thermal grease for enhanced performance. You have the option to trigger a turbo cooling mode by pressing the function and the arrow up keys. That way, your fans' speed will increase. Pressing both keys again will return the speed to normal. The laptop has an accommodating trackpad, but there are no click buttons, which, to me, is not great enough for a gaming PC. You’d have to question the "3-cell" battery that the MSI Katana series claims when the total wattage is 53.5Wh. When powering up for the first time, you have to plug in the power adapter before you press the power button. The company protected it from turning in case of accidental handling by putting it in shipping mode. So, if you wonder, "Why doesn't my new laptop come on when I press the power button?" then you have to have it plugged in to disable shipping mode. Hold the power button to sleep. Power: It offers five performance modes that support whatever working condition you want it to have as a user. However, you can customize each of the modes at the MSI Center. Cons Dull Camera Some versions come with 512 SSD The Verdict The PC is just an ‘average Joe’. There is a version that has a 512 SSD —what’s that for?. So, in performance, this is lower than the Titan G77, even though it is one of the company's recent releases. The power plug port is on the upper left side of the laptop. You have a screen refresh rate of 144Hz full HD. The WebCam of the MSI Katana 17 lacks sharpness and color integrity. There is only 1 display option; you can’t toggle between multiple displays. You would be lucky to have your unit equipped with an HDMI cable. The MSI Raider GE78HX Smart Touchpad Review This PC makes the list because, according to MSI, it is " ". Well, to begin with, you have a very sleek design with a workstation. The RGB light is really cool and welcoming, although it may be more exaggerated in pictures than in real life. The casing is solid plastic, mostly black, with some red and gold lining on some parts. The power comes on, bringing the vibrancy of the PC to glorious life on the icon, the keyboard, and the touch panel. Overview: tailored for gaming enthusiasts The entire laptop weighs in at about 3.1kg and has dimensions of 380 x 298 x 23 mm. For the most part, this is a smart PC, AI-powered, and that seems to be what MSI focused on with the Raider GE78HX Smart Touchpad PC. The backlit RGB keyboard is sleek. The designs on the arrow keys and the WASD stand out among others, they are more transparent and even with matching colors. You can modify the mystic lights, however, in the MSI center. The power button and function are similar to those of the Katana. A smart design puts out the keyboard lights once they are inactive, and they come back on as the touch panel senses hand movement. Keyboard: The touchpad is the most obvious component of the PC. The touch panel is elongated, and the entire mouse trackpad and screen functions. It covers about 3/4 of the hand rest. So, that means it is very difficult to do anything on this PC that requires typing, as you would have no palm rest area. While you can toggle off the touch functions of the shortcut keys on the touch panel, there are others that you cannot turn off, e.g., brightness, speaker volume, etc. It is a mixed reaction for me because, how many gamers care about a highly sensitive pad, especially when it can interfere with the gameplay? Touchpad: The touchpad was intended to foster easy access to special functions, and it has six programmable hotkeys that users can customize to any function you desire. A user can toggle among the three touchpad functions: eco mode, smart mode, and touchpad mode (On/Off). In my opinion, MSI should have allowed the users to max out all of the touchpad modes; sadly, you have to choose each one. And although the mouse has no right and left click buttons, the embedded click buttons beneath the trackpad are still annoyingly noisy. Specs: 24 cores total. 13th-Gen Intel ABT/TVB Core i9-13980 HX processor. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, GPU is a 140W dynamic boost 2.0, and the CPU is 75W, bringing it all to a total of 215W. Gen 5 SSD storage AI-enabled touchpad 16GB DDR5 RAM (some with 8GB GB DDR6 RAM) that is extendable up to 64GB. Supports Thunderbolt 4. Design: Overall, the design is impressive. The PC has a nice venting system that is quite effective, running from one side through the back and to the other side of the PC. Underneath are also vents. The machine drives a double fan with the Cooler Boost 5 system, with 6 heat pipes connecting to both the CPU and GPU. While you can expect this to keep the heat down, you can still, unfortunately, expect MSI's trademark fan noise. However, that shouldn’t be a worry for a gaming laptop. The PC has a long, thin rubber grip on the front and back for a firm grip onto a table surface. The MSI logo is also on the underbelly of the PC. Despite a good design generally, the hinges are a source of concern. They seem weak and can easily damage, as they hold the screen up only on the very far end of either side and are also small in size. The ports are distributed on the sides and the back of the laptop. You have 3 USB 3.2 GenT Type-A ports, and 2 Gen2 Type-C ports. You have HDMI 2.1 (8K @ 60Hz and up to 4K @ 120 Hz). You have the RJ45 port, too. You have a headphone/audio combo jack spot and an SD card slot with a Thunderbolt 4 opening. On the back side is a DC port. Ports: MSI loads this machine with 6 speakers on the sides and front. I think that may be an unnecessary burden since most gamers use headphones or monitors anyway. Speaker: Display: 17.3-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio, a QHD IPS resolution, and an impressive 240Hz refresh rate. The refresh rate even trumps the recent Titan GT77. This time around, MSI stopped hoarding the top WebCam capability by releasing a 1080p camera, and you can expect better quality for on-screen display images during games or even virtual meetings. There is a WebCam shield button that can cover the camera when not in use or to protect it from scratches. While the display promises to be better than most of MSI's products, what you see in pictures, especially on MSI's website, is more exaggerated than the real color hue. So, beware. It has a 99.9Wh battery capacity, which is fair compared to most of the company's products. Well, although claimed to be 4 cells, the thought is not 'awe-some' enough that the best power a 4 cell could offer is 88Wh. Power: **Price:**The preorder entry point price is a whopping $4,271 But prices may advance based on specifications and location. Cons: Unnecessary speaker burdens Noisy fan Too pricey Cannot access all touchpad modes at once The Verdict If you are going for this, you have made a reasonable choice, considering the technology, AI functionality of the touchpad, too. The MUX discrete graphics mode of this PC allows a user to stretch the PC further than most of its colleagues. If you need loud and plenty of speakers, this is okay. The WebCam is great, too. But the price may be too much for what this product has to offer in comparison to other brands’ offers. Final Thoughts on the Best MSI Laptops of 2023 MSI is a respected PC creator with many product successes. They boast of recent technology in hardware composition that will impress their customers. The AI advancement of the Raider GE 78HX is something to look forward to in other PCs. While The Titan GT77 and Raider GE78HX are powerful devices suitable for driving heavy games, the Cyborg 15 and Katana are just mid-range performance PCs that would best serve content creators and non-gaming enthusiasts or beginners.

In this article, I would like to share my own experience of developing a smart camera for cyclists with an advanced computer vision algorithm to detect potential dangers on the road and prevent collisions. I briefly described the whole process of prototyping and video data collecting from scratch below. It might be interesting both for Embedded and Machine Learning engineers. A little spoiler before we get started: the collected dataset later was open-sourced. Once I got into a traffic accident on the road: a car ran over my bike from the side. Fortunately, I escaped with a slight bruise and sprain. So, I especially understand the safety problems that cyclists on public roads. One of the solutions for the issue is to use bike cameras for capturing incidents. Cycling on the road, as we know, becomes safer when equipped with a camera that captures your viewpoint. In an altercation with a driver, having footage can serve as an additional protective layer. Without evidence, an unethical driver may deny responsibility, but having a camera for cyclists can serve as a lifesaver in such a situation. In the UK, there's even a website called Nextbase that facilitates the submission of action camera footage to the police, streamlining the process and reducing complications. In other words, you can catch the accident on camera, but you must admit, it's always better to avoid a dangerous situation. When I started the project there were no proactive solutions for preventing dangerous situations on roads. So I decided to create my smart bicycle backlight with a camera. The mission of the project was to decrease death and injuries among cyclists. Originally, the device was planned to be set with an advanced computer vision algorithm, often referred to as "artificial intelligence" in the media, that can detect potential dangers on the road for cyclists. Let me explain the concept in simple words: if the software detects danger, the device emits a flashing light to grab the attention of drivers. Additionally, the safety system emits a loud sound to the vehicle behind before a collision, helping to prevent it. Open Datasets from Rear-view Cameras: Essential for Research, but Scarce Online In order to train my object detection neural network (part of the computer vision algorithm, used for perception), I needed to find a large dataset of different scenarios from public roads captured by rear-view cameras. Unfortunately, such open-source datasets were not available on the web when I got started. In its entirety studies of driving behavior are extremely useful in transportation engineering, serving various purposes such as data collection for statistical analysis, identification of driving models, and estimation of modeling parameters. The data and models can be applied in several areas, including road safety analysis, microscopic models for traffic simulation, forecasting, and control, and control logic for advanced driving assistance systems. Running ahead, it should be said that while working on this project I've created the dataset from Ukrainian public roads captured by rear-view cameras of the first MVP users in 2021. Totally understanding the public and social importance of having such datasets in the public domain, I’ve uploaded the results of my work . here Let’s Talk Hardware: Rapid Prototyping with a Low Budget To teach the neural network predicting accidents I had to collect a lot of data. For this case, I needed to develop camera prototypes to give to my first beta testers for recording their rides. Fortunately, my cycling community network includes a lot of safety road activists. The only thing left to do was to assemble a few devices to hand them to my first users. Let me briefly describe the developing process and explain the logic of choosing specific technical solutions below. The hardware configuration: the case was 3D-printed. Raspberry Pi 3B+ Computer module was chosen as the platform, and custom PCBs were made to keep the case compact and lightweight. I used a standard Raspberry Pi IMX219 sensor for the camera, but I employed a 120-degree lens. High-powered LED lights and a red-tinted lens (also 3D-printed) were added for better visibility on the road. I used the Google Coral Edge TPU (photos included), a low-cost and powerful 4 TOPs neural accelerator, for running neural networks on the device. The TPU was connected via USB. All these electronics consumed 7-8W at maximum load (video recording, real-time neural network operation, and LED flashing). An 8Ah Li-ion battery (photographs of the inside of the casing included) was used to ensure 4-5 hours of operation. Software Insides: under the hood of OTA For the OS, I used the standard Raspbian since it is better supported and all of the drivers I needed were easily installed without any issues. The main code that I decided to write after booting the OS was in C++. I don't recommend starting with this - for experimentation purposes, I do believe Python might be a better option for beginners. However, if you want to effectively and precisely control all of the limited resources on the Raspberry Pi with maximum hardware capabilities, it's worth writing in C/C++. One of the most interesting solutions I made in this project is the OTA (over-the-air update) mechanism and the mechanism for collecting video recordings from devices. The process looked like this: when a user finishes a ride and comes home, they insert a USB WiFi adapter, which connects to the home Wi-FI, and the device begins synchronization. All videos were synchronized via Google Drive - I created a separate Google account for each device. Google Drive has a lot of advantages in my case: I was able to watch the videos instantly via the Google Drive web interface, it's easy to manually delete or add new files, and, last but not least, it was free for my experiments (up to 20GB for each account). ( , please, don't be evil, there were only four MVPs at my newborn startup). Google Using H.264 video encoding helps keep hundreds of videos on one Google Drive without running out of capacity. Let me describe the OTA process: after compiling a new firmware, I upload it to a Google drive. The next time during synchronizing with Google Drive,  a device downloads the newer firmware version and replaces the old one. I used a simple gdrive utility for this. Here is the code that I use to upload a new firmware file: gdrive upload -p “gdrive folder id” “file” Below I give a line of code for  loading new firmware on a device: gdrive update “id” “file” After checking the firmware version, the video synchronization happens and all new recordings upload to Google Drive. This is how the videos download to the disk from a device: gdrive sync upload “local folder” “gdrive folder id” Once a day, I ran a script on my server to synchronize all Google Drives with my local folders and downloaded all new videos. gdrive sync download “gdrive folder id” “local folder” Thus, after several months of work, my devices have collected 200+ videos ready for labeling. After collecting the video, I processed it, filtered it, and created the dataset. Then I gathered a small team for manual labeling. The team included 4 people who labeled every single photo. Eventually, as was mentioned before, I gave the dataset to open source. You can find it via the link: GitHub link. I do believe that open-sourced datasets are a valuable resource for the research community, and they can greatly contribute to the development of new algorithms and models in the field of road safety.

Tarzan was yet too far away to note the marks of ruin—to him it appeared a wonderful city of magnificent beauty, and in imagination he peopled its broad avenues and its huge temples with a throng of happy, active people. For an hour the little expedition rested upon the mountain-top, and then Tarzan led them down into the valley below. There was no trail, but the way was less arduous than the ascent of the opposite face of the mountain had been. Once in the valley their progress was rapid, so that it was still light when they halted before the towering walls of the ancient city. The outer wall was fifty feet in height where it had not fallen into ruin, but nowhere as far as they could see had more than ten or twenty feet of the upper courses fallen away. It was still a formidable defense. On several occasions Tarzan had thought that he discerned things moving behind the ruined portions of the wall near to them, as though creatures were watching them from behind the bulwarks of the ancient pile. And often he felt the sensation of unseen eyes upon him, but not once could he be sure that it was more than imagination. That night they camped outside the city. Once, at midnight, they were awakened by a shrill scream from beyond the great wall. It was very high at first, descending gradually until it ended in a series of dismal moans. It had a strange effect upon the blacks, almost paralyzing them with terror while it lasted, and it was an hour before the camp settled down to sleep once more. In the morning the effects of it were still visible in the fearful, sidelong glances that the Waziri continually cast at the massive and forbidding structure which loomed above them. It required considerable encouragement and urging on Tarzan’s part to prevent the blacks from abandoning the venture on the spot and hastening back across the valley toward the cliffs they had scaled the day before. But at length, by dint of commands, and threats that he would enter the city alone, they agreed to accompany him. For fifteen minutes they marched along the face of the wall before they discovered a means of ingress. Then they came to a narrow cleft about twenty inches wide. Within, a flight of concrete steps, worn hollow by centuries of use, rose before them, to disappear at a sharp turning of the passage a few yards ahead. Into this narrow alley Tarzan made his way, turning his giant shoulders sideways that they might enter at all. Behind him trailed his black warriors. At the turn in the cleft the stairs ended, and the path was level; but it wound and twisted in a serpentine fashion, until suddenly at a sharp angle it debouched upon a narrow court, across which loomed an inner wall equally as high as the outer. This inner wall was set with little round towers alternating along its entire summit with pointed monoliths. In places these had fallen, and the wall was ruined, but it was in a much better state of preservation than the outer wall. Another narrow passage led through this wall, and at its end Tarzan and his warriors found themselves in a broad avenue, on the opposite side of which crumbling edifices of hewn granite loomed dark and forbidding. Upon the crumbling debris along the face of the buildings trees had grown, and vines wound in and out of the hollow, staring windows; but the building directly opposite them seemed less overgrown than the others, and in a much better state of preservation. It was a massive pile, surmounted by an enormous dome. At either side of its great entrance stood rows of tall pillars, each capped by a huge, grotesque bird carved from the solid rock of the monoliths. As the ape-man and his companions stood gazing in varying degrees of wonderment at this ancient city in the midst of savage Africa, several of them became aware of movement within the structure at which they were looking. Dim, shadowy shapes appeared to be moving about in the semi-darkness of the interior. There was nothing tangible that the eye could grasp—only an uncanny suggestion of life where it seemed that there should be no life, for living things seemed out of place in this weird, dead city of the long-dead past. Tarzan recalled something that he had read in the library at Paris of a lost race of white men that native legend described as living in the heart of Africa. He wondered if he were not looking upon the ruins of the civilization that this strange people had wrought amid the savage surroundings of their strange and savage home. Could it be possible that even now a remnant of that lost race inhabited the ruined grandeur that had once been their progenitor? Again he became conscious of a stealthy movement within the great temple before him. “Come!” he said, to his Waziri. “Let us have a look at what lies behind those ruined walls.” His men were loath to follow him, but when they saw that he was bravely entering the frowning portal they trailed a few paces behind in a huddled group that seemed the personification of nervous terror. A single shriek such as they had heard the night before would have been sufficient to have sent them all racing madly for the narrow cleft that led through the great walls to the outer world. As Tarzan entered the building he was distinctly aware of many eyes upon him. There was a rustling in the shadows of a near-by corridor, and he could have sworn that he saw a human hand withdrawn from an embrasure that opened above him into the domelike rotunda in which he found himself. The floor of the chamber was of concrete, the walls of smooth granite, upon which strange figures of men and beasts were carved. In places tablets of yellow metal had been set in the solid masonry of the walls. When he approached closer to one of these tablets he saw that it was of gold, and bore many hieroglyphics. Beyond this first chamber there were others, and back of them the building branched out into enormous wings. Tarzan passed through several of these chambers, finding many evidences of the fabulous wealth of the original builders. In one room were seven pillars of solid gold, and in another the floor itself was of the precious metal. And all the while that he explored, his blacks huddled close together at his back, and strange shapes hovered upon either hand and before them and behind, yet never close enough that any might say that they were not alone. The strain, however, was telling upon the nerves of the Waziri. They begged Tarzan to return to the sunlight. They said that no good could come of such an expedition, for the ruins were haunted by the spirits of the dead who had once inhabited them. “They are watching us, O king,” whispered Busuli. “They are waiting until they have led us into the innermost recesses of their stronghold, and then they will fall upon us and tear us to pieces with their teeth. That is the way with spirits. My mother’s uncle, who is a great witch doctor, has told me all about it many times.” Tarzan laughed. “Run back into the sunlight, my children,” he said. “I will join you when I have searched this old ruin from top to bottom, and found the gold, or found that there is none. At least we may take the tablets from the walls, though the pillars are too heavy for us to handle; but there should be great storerooms filled with gold—gold that we can carry away upon our backs with ease. Run on now, out into the fresh air where you may breathe easier.” Some of the warriors started to obey their chief with alacrity, but Busuli and several others hesitated to leave him—hesitated between love and loyalty for their king, and superstitious fear of the unknown. And then, quite unexpectedly, that occurred which decided the question without the necessity for further discussion. Out of the silence of the ruined temple there rang, close to their ears, the same hideous shriek they had heard the previous night, and with horrified cries the black warriors turned and fled through the empty halls of the age-old edifice. Behind them stood Tarzan of the Apes where they had left him, a grim smile upon his lips—waiting for the enemy he fully expected was about to pounce upon him. But again silence reigned, except for the faint suggestion of the sound of naked feet moving stealthily in near-by places. Then Tarzan wheeled and passed on into the depths of the temple. From room to room he went, until he came to one at which a rude, barred door still stood, and as he put his shoulder against it to push it in, again the shriek of warning rang out almost beside him. It was evident that he was being warned to refrain from desecrating this particular room. Or could it be that within lay the secret to the treasure stores? At any rate, the very fact that the strange, invisible guardians of this weird place had some reason for wishing him not to enter this particular chamber was sufficient to treble Tarzan’s desire to do so, and though the shrieking was repeated continuously, he kept his shoulder to the door until it gave before his giant strength to swing open upon creaking wooden hinges. Within all was black as the tomb. There was no window to let in the faintest ray of light, and as the corridor upon which it opened was itself in semi-darkness, even the open door shed no relieving rays within. Feeling before him upon the floor with the butt of his spear, Tarzan entered the Stygian gloom. Suddenly the door behind him closed, and at the same time hands clutched him from every direction out of the darkness. The ape-man fought with all the savage fury of self-preservation backed by the herculean strength that was his. But though he felt his blows land, and his teeth sink into soft flesh, there seemed always two new hands to take the place of those that he fought off. At last they dragged him down, and slowly, very slowly, they overcame him by the mere weight of their numbers. And then they bound him—his hands behind his back and his feet trussed up to meet them. He had heard no sound except the heavy breathing of his antagonists, and the noise of the battle. He knew not what manner of creatures had captured him, but that they were human seemed evident from the fact that they had bound him. Presently they lifted him from the floor, and half dragging, half pushing him, they brought him out of the black chamber through another doorway into an inner courtyard of the temple. Here he saw his captors. There must have been a hundred of them—short, stocky men, with great beards that covered their faces and fell upon their hairy breasts. The thick, matted hair upon their heads grew low over their receding brows, and hung about their shoulders and their backs. Their crooked legs were short and heavy, their arms long and muscular. About their loins they wore the skins of leopards and lions, and great necklaces of the claws of these same animals depended upon their breasts. Massive circlets of virgin gold adorned their arms and legs. For weapons they carried heavy, knotted bludgeons, and in the belts that confined their single garments each had a long, wicked-looking knife. But the feature of them that made the most startling impression upon their prisoner was their white skins—neither in color nor feature was there a trace of the negroid about them. Yet, with their receding foreheads, wicked little close-set eyes, and yellow fangs, they were far from prepossessing in appearance. During the fight within the dark chamber, and while they had been dragging Tarzan to the inner court, no word had been spoken, but now several of them exchanged grunting, monosyllabic conversation in a language unfamiliar to the ape-man, and presently they left him lying upon the concrete floor while they trooped off on their short legs into another part of the temple beyond the court. As Tarzan lay there upon his back he saw that the temple entirely surrounded the little inclosure, and that on all sides its lofty walls rose high above him. At the top a little patch of blue sky was visible, and, in one direction, through an embrasure, he could see foliage, but whether it was beyond or within the temple he did not know. About the court, from the ground to the top of the temple, were series of open galleries, and now and then the captive caught glimpses of bright eyes gleaming from beneath masses of tumbling hair, peering down upon him from above. The ape-man gently tested the strength of the bonds that held him, and while he could not be sure it seemed that they were of insufficient strength to withstand the strain of his mighty muscles when the time came to make a break for freedom; but he did not dare to put them to the crucial test until darkness had fallen, or he felt that no spying eyes were upon him. He had lain within the court for several hours before the first rays of sunlight penetrated the vertical shaft; almost simultaneously he heard the pattering of bare feet in the corridors about him, and a moment later saw the galleries above fill with crafty faces as a score or more entered the courtyard. For a moment every eye was bent upon the noonday sun, and then in unison the people in the galleries and those in the court below took up the refrain of a low, weird chant. Presently those about Tarzan began to dance to the cadence of their solemn song. They circled him slowly, resembling in their manner of dancing a number of clumsy, shuffling bears; but as yet they did not look at him, keeping their little eyes fixed upon the sun. For ten minutes or more they kept up their monotonous chant and steps, and then suddenly, and in perfect unison, they turned toward their victim with upraised bludgeons and emitting fearful howls, the while they contorted their features into the most diabolical expressions, they rushed upon him. At the same instant a female figure dashed into the midst of the bloodthirsty horde, and, with a bludgeon similar to their own, except that it was wrought from gold, beat back the advancing men. I set out recently to set up my home office desk, and one of the most exciting and fun parts was selecting what keyboard to get. It was fun because it is one piece of equipment I learned a lot about, and when I set out to pick one, all I knew was that I wanted a mechanical keyboard, not just the regular type. I have decided to share the different things to consider when picking one out. SIZES AND LAYOUTS One of the first things I noticed, and one of the factors that made me consider getting a mechanical keyboard, was the different sizes they came in. Mechanical keyboards come in various sizes and layouts, each with benefits and drawbacks. Here are some standard sizes and layouts: A full-size mechanical keyboard is the largest size, featuring a standard layout with a Numpad, function, and navigation keys. These keyboards offer a traditional typing experience and are great for users who need access to all the keys. Full-size: A tenkeyless mechanical keyboard is similar to a full-size keyboard but lacks a Numpad. This makes the keyboard more compact and allows for more effortless mouse movement. Typical switch types include: These switches are linear (smooth) and have a low actuation force, making them popular for gaming. How to Choose the Best Mechanical Keyboard

A couple of months ago, I had a need to make a lift table control. Initially, I wanted to use metal buttons with a backlight. But then I think that 8 buttons would look very ugly. And I got the idea to make control using the Nextion display. I had a 2.4” screen with a resolution of 320x240 (NX3224T024). Its size was ideal for mounting in a table. After reading about the possibilities of the screen, a lot of ideas for the user interface were born in my head. Among these ideas was support for multilanguage. I planned to connect the screen to the Arduino Mega 2560. To work with their screens, Nextion made a library for Arduino, which is available on their official website and on GitHUB Unfortunately, the Nextion editor does not have full support for string arrays, so I had to think about how to implement language selection and store "language packs" in a convenient way. So that you can quickly read, change or create a new “language pack” in your project. As a result, I came up with the following option: On the main page, I created a global variable that has the value ID of the currently selected language. cur_lang_id Unfortunately, the NX3224T024 screens do not have an EEPROM, so we will store the selected language in the Arduino's EEPROM. The NEXTION library for Arduino only allows you to access global variables that are on the current page, so when you turn on the Arduino, it will load the selected language ID from the EEPROM and pass it to the Nextion display. Nextion display will use the value of this variable for its work. Then I learned that pages in Nextion can be accessed as an array , where n is the ordinal ID of the page. p[n] I decided that the best solution would be to create a page with text elements for each language. Each text object in Nextion has an “ ” attribute that can be used to access it and a “ ” attribute that will store the translation of the word. objname txt After creating the language pages, we can access their values like this: b4.txt=lang_en.Back.txt or this: b4.txt=p[3].Back.txt and like this: home.cur_lang_id.val = 3

To do this, we set the value of the global variable in the Touch Press Event. home.cur_lang_id.val It remains to write code for Arduino to save the selected language in EEPROM and load it after a power failure. In order for the Nextion display to send information about pressing a button to the Arduino board, we need to check the “Send component ID” checkbox on the Touch Release Event of each button The cur_lang_id global variable is on the page (ID 0), and the choice of languages is on the page (ID 7), when you click on the language selection button, Arduino will not be able to immediately read the changed value.
