But… Even when you are panic-applying to every single job that fits the bill, I’d still like to suggest you take a moment and reflect on the  type of company you’d LIKE to work at. What kind of place would allow you to thrive and grow? That question, in and of itself, is often not enough to help lead you to an answer. This takes me back to the idea from last week’s post. Think about the type of company you would enjoy. One example I mention often is Patagonia. Yes, they make and sell clothing. But what people often comment on is the company’s commitment to teamwork,  balance, and health among its employees. culture How about the around the company? One example is the NFL. Another is Taylor Swift. (it’s ironic that, as I write this, those two  entities have never been more closely linked than they are because of  Tay’s relationship with Travis Kelce). In both cases you, yourself, may  not be all that interested in football (or Taylor Swift songs. But  honestly, what’s wrong with you?!?) But the chance to enable those fans (and superfans) to be part of such a powerful community might be exciting for you. community There’s also the company’s “ ” – it’s mission – that’s worth considering. While that’s certainly disappointing, it’s also OK. Not every company is perfect, not every job is for every person, and sometimes you  realize you’re OK with being a consumer of a brand and not a producer.  And there are just as many cases where folks pursue a job at the company and find out it’s every bit as wonderful as they’d heard (and hoped). Which is a huge benefit if interest leads to an interview. Because in an interview, that level of interest, involvement, and passion is something that cannot be faked and also can’t be taught. You might not have all the skills on the checklist, but most hiring managers will notice (and choose) someone who expresses interest in the actual company and what they do. If you are looking for your next job, do yourself a favor and take a moment to think about your fandoms, favorites, and things that tickle your fancy. Do they pay up-front, or tend to defer payments over time? If they pay by credit card, how many cards do they use? What kind of plan have they chosen? If they have the option to leave a tip—like in the case of delivery drivers—do they use it? Whenever they submit a claim, we can categorize them based on whether they filed a police report and followed up with it, or in the case repairs were needed, if they attended their maintenance appointments as planned. This is not only to reward them for their ongoing allegiance, but also, to understand their behavior and identify patterns. By looking at your top loyalty tier, you can uncover insights that show you why your customers are staying for so long. Complaints: This is very useful, as it helps you identify if there are any recurrent themes behind ongoing complaints and whether these are justified or not. If they are, it gives you suggestions for improvement. If they are not, it can pinpoint you to those customers that you might be better off without. #4: Assess the model’s performance on the test set, and finetune when required To maximize effectiveness, testing is key. Once you run the model using your test set, which is the dataset that you gathered specifically for this purpose, see whether the model is giving you the results you desire. Basically, you are comparing whether the model’s predictions are accurate, and if they are not, you need to determine how far off they are from reality to see how you need to finetune your model. Here, you would be looking at metrics like accuracy, precision, and recall, however, these will vary depending on the ML algorithm that you used. Based on these results, you can make the necessary adjustments. Sometimes, the changes might involve changing the algorithm altogether, while other times, you might need to incorporate additional data or alter some of the model’s parameters. All in all, finding the right model is a similar process to determining the right business model for your company. You test what you built, and if it works, you keep going, and if it doesn’t, you need to iterate until you find the right fit. With ML, it is pretty much the same. Don’t be afraid to go a few steps back and restructure how your ML model works. As for Passepartout, he was a true Parisian of Paris. Since he had abandoned his own country for England, taking service as a valet, he had in vain searched for a master after his own heart. Passepartout was by no means one of those pert dunces depicted by Molière with a bold gaze and a nose held high in the air; he was an honest fellow, with a pleasant face, lips a trifle protruding, soft-mannered and serviceable, with a good round head, such as one likes to see on the shoulders of a friend. His eyes were blue, his complexion rubicund, his figure almost portly and well-built, his body muscular, and his physical powers fully developed by the exercises of his younger days. His brown hair was somewhat tumbled; for, while the ancient sculptors are said to have known eighteen methods of arranging Minerva’s tresses, Passepartout was familiar with but one of dressing his own: three strokes of a large-tooth comb completed his toilet. It would be rash to predict how Passepartout’s lively nature would agree with Mr. Fogg. It was impossible to tell whether the new servant would turn out as absolutely methodical as his master required; experience alone could solve the question. Passepartout had been a sort of vagrant in his early years, and now yearned for repose; but so far he had failed to find it, though he had already served in ten English houses. But he could not take root in any of these; with chagrin, he found his masters invariably whimsical and irregular, constantly running about the country, or on the look-out for adventure. His last master, young Lord Longferry, Member of Parliament, after passing his nights in the Haymarket taverns, was too often brought home in the morning on policemen’s shoulders. Passepartout, desirous of respecting the gentleman whom he served, ventured a mild remonstrance on such conduct; which, being ill-received, he took his leave. Hearing that Mr. Phileas Fogg was looking for a servant, and that his life was one of unbroken regularity, that he neither travelled nor stayed from home overnight, he felt sure that this would be the place he was after. He presented himself, and was accepted, as has been seen. At half-past eleven, then, Passepartout found himself alone in the house in Saville Row. He began its inspection without delay, scouring it from cellar to garret. So clean, well-arranged, solemn a mansion pleased him; it seemed to him like a snail’s shell, lighted and warmed by gas, which sufficed for both these purposes. When Passepartout reached the second story he recognised at once the room which he was to inhabit, and he was well satisfied with it. Electric bells and speaking-tubes afforded communication with the lower stories; while on the mantel stood an electric clock, precisely like that in Mr. Fogg’s bedchamber, both beating the same second at the same instant. “That’s good, that’ll do,” said Passepartout to himself. There was no study, nor were there books, which would have been quite useless to Mr. Fogg; for at the Reform two libraries, one of general literature and the other of law and politics, were at his service. A moderate-sized safe stood in his bedroom, constructed so as to defy fire as well as burglars; but Passepartout found neither arms nor hunting weapons anywhere; everything betrayed the most tranquil and peaceable habits. Having scrutinised the house from top to bottom, he rubbed his hands, a broad smile overspread his features, and he said joyfully, “This is just what I wanted! Which analytics tool do you think is near-perfect? I have used several Web Analytics tools over my 10+ years of experience in building and managing products. And to date, I don’t think there is a single product that I can call as near-perfect. Hence, thought of jotting down what I feel is an Ideal Product Requirements Document (PRD) for Web Analytics. A disclaimer, for readability and brevity purposes, I am not writing this as a formal PRD :) Before I start, the trigger to write this came from Google's push. Recently, Google asked everyone to shift to . Google Analytics 4 (GA4) from their older version i.e. Universal Analytics (UA) Anyone who is using the older GA will have to shift as they have stopped processing data for older versions starting 1st July 2023. So, over the last few weeks, I have been trying to use GA4. The more I use it the more frustrating it gets! Some of the basics seem to be missing from the home page. Some of the other tools I extensively use include and . In fact, our current analytics stack is mostly a combination of these two to a large extent with some Universal Analytics usage. Heap FullStory Recently both these tools have also done quite a few changes: ranging from adding new features, UX changes, and more. And even Fullstory now seems more confusing than its previous version So, here is a summary of what I would ideally like to have in a Web Analytics Product ( ): P.S: I will  also try to add a slight pointer who does a better job among the three I have listed : It should have the ability to show basic metrics like: No. of total users, New users, Bounce rate, Avg. session time ( ) User metrics While all three provide this in one form or the other, the erstwhile GA had the most simple dashboard to view this. : It should have the ability to show Page insights: Total page views, Unique Page Views, and how many sessions started on a page i.e. Landing Pages ( Page insights Again all three can provide it in one form or the other but the older GA definitely provides a better view of this. I can't find a similar view in GA4 ) : It should have the ability to show where the site is getting traffic from. For me, the tool should show it in the order of Channels/Referrer > Device > Geo. And hopefully, a tool that can intelligently solve for DIRECT as the source. ( ) Traffic Insights Heap is better here in terms of providing default views. Though, I see this as the weakest link for all the products I have experienced so far : It should allow a user to pass custom events as well as define events basis Button clicks, Anchor clicks, Page views. ( ) Events Heap does this best among the three It should show top-performing events that a user has defined or show intelligent recommendations based on Clicks It should also show in the same view where the event occurred. Mainly useful for custom events For custom events, if a user passes a unique identifier of their customer, the product should be able to show the whole journey before and after the event for that customer It should allow a user to playback user session recordings ( ) User Replay sessions: This is FullStory's stronghold. It is mainly known for this. However recently Heap has also introduced this albeit for paid plans. GA doesn't provide this It should allow a user to see aggregated scroll and click insights for a page ( HeatMaps: Again Fullstory does the best job here. Heap has introduced this recently and again in paid plans. GA doesn't provide this) Apart from the above core features, the below makes the tool more appealing ( ) these are mainly relevant for Heavy and Power Users It should have robust APIs to fetch and send data. Ideally with integration with no-code tools like Zapier, and Make. This becomes very critical as the user base and traffic increases of a site ( ) APIs: GA definitely has the best set of APIs. Since I have so far used the free versions of Heap and FullStory, I don't know their API's full potential It should have the ability to slice and dice all the above insights using different type of filters. Filters: Few of the main filters which I look at: A page path, UTM parameters, Geo, Device, Landing page : It should have the ability to create different user segments and see a combination of the above views for that particular segment Create User Segments : It should have the ability to see aggregated insights between a chain of events to see the drop between one step to another step Funnels : Definitely helpful if there's an app through which all key insights can be shown Mobile App : It should have the ability to automatically discard the bot traffic. ( ) Bot removal FullStory does the best job among the three That's it for now :) Not detailing the administrative type features here since I think that depends completely on the user personas a tool targets. Also, a most important point to note here is while the features are absolutely essential, I think UX plays a major role in how effectively the features get discovered and used. Personally for me, since I just don't consume the analytics report but also create one, for me, two important UX criteria are: How easy it is to navigate to uncover deeper insights. Ideally, deep linking within a view is what works best for me. I don't want to always navigate from the menu How easy it is to slice and dice different views I am always eager to try out new tools. In fact, I have a few open-source tools in my pipeline like and that I am waiting to try once time permits. We think of matter as having existed long before there were any minds, and it is hard to think of it as a mere product of mental activity. But whether true or false, idealism is not to be dismissed as obviously absurd. We have seen that, even if physical objects do have an independent existence, they must differ very widely from sense-data, and can only have a correspondence with sense-data, in the same sort of way in which a catalogue has a correspondence with the things catalogued. Hence common sense leaves us completely in the dark as to the true intrinsic nature of physical objects, and if there were good reason to regard them as mental, we could not legitimately reject this opinion merely because it strikes us as strange. The truth about physical objects must be strange. It may be unattainable, but if any philosopher believes that he has attained it, the fact that what he offers as the truth is strange ought not to be made a ground of objection to his opinion. The grounds on which idealism is advocated are generally grounds derived from the theory of knowledge, that is to say, from a discussion of the conditions which things must satisfy in order that we may be able to know them. The first serious attempt to establish idealism on such grounds was that of Bishop Berkeley. He proved first, by arguments which were largely valid, that our sense-data cannot be supposed to have an existence independent of us, but must be, in part at least, 'in' the mind, in the sense that their existence would not continue if there were no seeing or hearing or touching or smelling or tasting. So far, his contention was almost certainly valid, even if some of his arguments were not so. But he went on to argue that sense-data were the only things of whose existence our perceptions could assure us; and that to be known is to be 'in' a mind, and therefore to be mental. Hence he concluded that nothing can ever be known except what is in some mind, and that whatever is known without being in my mind must be in some other mind. In order to understand his argument, it is necessary to understand his use of the word 'idea'. He gives the name 'idea' to anything which is immediately known, as, for example, sense-data are known. Thus a particular colour which we see is an idea; so is a voice which we hear, and so on. But the term is not wholly confined to sense-data. There will also be things remembered or imagined, for with such things also we have immediate acquaintance at the moment of remembering or imagining. All such immediate data he calls 'ideas'. He then proceeds to consider common objects, such as a tree, for instance. He shows that all we know immediately when we 'perceive' the tree consists of ideas in his sense of the word, and he argues that there is not the slightest ground for supposing that there is anything real about the tree except what is perceived. Its being, he says, consists in being perceived: in the Latin of the schoolmen its 'esse' is 'percipi'. He fully admits that the tree must continue to exist even when we shut our eyes or when no human being is near it. But this continued existence, he says, is due to the fact that God continues to perceive it; the 'real' tree, which corresponds to what we called the physical object, consists of ideas in the mind of God, ideas more or less like those we have when we see the tree, but differing in the fact that they are permanent in God's mind so long as the tree continues to exist. All our perceptions, according to him, consist in a partial participation in God's perceptions, and it is because of this participation that different people see more or less the same tree. Thus apart from minds and their ideas there is nothing in the world, nor is it possible that anything else should ever be known, since whatever is known is necessarily an idea. There are in this argument a good many fallacies which have been important in the history of philosophy, and which it will be as well to bring to light. In the first place, there is a confusion engendered by the use of the word 'idea'. We think of an idea as essentially something in somebody's mind, and thus when we are told that a tree consists entirely of ideas, it is natural to suppose that, if so, the tree must be entirely in minds. But the notion of being 'in' the mind is ambiguous. We speak of bearing a person in mind, not meaning that the person is in our minds, but that a thought of him is in our minds. When a man says that some business he had to arrange went clean out of his mind, he does not mean to imply that the business itself was ever in his mind, but only that a thought of the business was formerly in his mind, but afterwards ceased to be in his mind. And so when Berkeley says that the tree must be in our minds if we can know it, all that he really has a right to say is that a thought of the tree must be in our minds. To argue that the tree itself must be in our minds is like arguing that a person whom we bear in mind is himself in our minds. This confusion may seem too gross to have been really committed by any competent philosopher, but various attendant circumstances rendered it possible. In order to see how it was possible, we must go more deeply into the question as to the nature of ideas. Before taking up the general question of the nature of ideas, we must disentangle two entirely separate questions which arise concerning sense-data and physical objects. We saw that, for various reasons of detail, Berkeley was right in treating the sense-data which constitute our perception of the tree as more or less subjective, in the sense that they depend upon us as much as upon the tree, and would not exist if the tree were not being perceived. But this is an entirely different point from the one by which Berkeley seeks to prove that whatever can be immediately known must be in a mind. For this purpose arguments of detail as to the dependence of sense-data upon us are useless. It is necessary to prove, generally, that by being known, things are shown to be mental. This is what Berkeley believes himself to have done. It is this question, and not our previous question as to the difference between sense-data and the physical object, that must now concern us. Taking the word 'idea' in Berkeley's sense, there are two quite distinct things to be considered whenever an idea is before the mind. There is on the one hand the thing of which we are aware—say the colour of my table—and on the other hand the actual awareness itself, the mental act of apprehending the thing. The mental act is undoubtedly mental, but is there any reason to suppose that the thing apprehended is in any sense mental? Our previous arguments concerning the colour did not prove it to be mental; they only proved that its existence depends upon the relation of our sense organs to the physical object—in our case, the table. That is to say, they proved that a certain colour will exist, in a certain light, if a normal eye is placed at a certain point relatively to the table. They did not prove that the colour is in the mind of the percipient. Berkeley's view, that obviously the colour must be in the mind, seems to depend for its plausibility upon confusing the thing apprehended with the act of apprehension. Either of these might be called an 'idea'; probably either would have been called an idea by Berkeley. The act is undoubtedly in the mind; hence, when we are thinking of the act, we readily assent to the view that ideas must be in the mind. Then, forgetting that this was only true when ideas were taken as acts of apprehension, we transfer the proposition that 'ideas are in the mind' to ideas in the other sense, i.e. to the things apprehended by our acts of apprehension. Thus, by an unconscious equivocation, we arrive at the conclusion that whatever we can apprehend must be in our minds. This seems to be the true analysis of Berkeley's argument, and the ultimate fallacy upon which it rests. This question of the distinction between act and object in our apprehending of things is vitally important, since our whole power of acquiring knowledge is bound up with it. The faculty of being acquainted with things other than itself is the main characteristic of a mind. Acquaintance with objects essentially consists in a relation between the mind and something other than the mind; it is this that constitutes the mind's power of knowing things. If we say that the things known must be in the mind, we are either unduly limiting the mind's power of knowing, or we are uttering a mere tautology. We are uttering a mere tautology if we mean by 'in the mind' the same as by 'before the mind', i.e. if we mean merely being apprehended by the mind. But if we mean this, we shall have to admit that what, in this sense, is in the mind, may nevertheless be not mental. Thus when we realize the nature of knowledge, Berkeley's argument is seen to be wrong in substance as well as in form, and his grounds for supposing that 'ideas'—i.e. the objects apprehended—must be mental, are found to have no validity whatever. Hence his grounds in favour of idealism may be dismissed. It remains to see whether there are any other grounds. It is often said, as though it were a self-evident truism, that we cannot know that anything exists which we do not know. It is inferred that whatever can in any way be relevant to our experience must be at least capable of being known by us; whence it follows that if matter were essentially something with which we could not become acquainted, matter would be something which we could not know to exist, and which could have for us no importance whatever. It is generally also implied, for reasons which remain obscure, that what can have no importance for us cannot be real, and that therefore matter, if it is not composed of minds or of mental ideas, is impossible and a mere chimaera. To go into this argument fully at our present stage would be impossible, since it raises points requiring a considerable preliminary discussion; but certain reasons for rejecting the argument may be noticed at once. To begin at the end: there is no reason why what cannot have any practical importance for us should not be real. It is true that, if theoretical importance is included, everything real is of some importance to us, since, as persons desirous of knowing the truth about the universe, we have some interest in everything that the universe contains. But if this sort of interest is included, it is not the case that matter has no importance for us, provided it exists even if we cannot know that it exists. We can, obviously, suspect that it may exist, and wonder whether it does; hence it is connected with our desire for knowledge, and has the importance of either satisfying or thwarting this desire. Again, it is by no means a truism, and is in fact false, that we cannot know that anything exists which we do not know. The word 'know' is here used in two different senses. (1) In its first use it is applicable to the sort of knowledge which is opposed to error, the sense in which what we know is true, the sense which applies to our beliefs and convictions, i.e. to what are called judgements. In this sense of the word we know that something is the case. This sort of knowledge may be described as knowledge of truths. (2) In the second use of the word 'know' above, the word applies to our knowledge of things, which we may call acquaintance. This is the sense in which we know sense-data. (The distinction involved is roughly that between savoir and connaître in French, or between wissen and kennen in German.) Thus the statement which seemed like a truism becomes, when re-stated, the following: 'We can never truly judge that something with which we are not acquainted exists.' This is by no means a truism, but on the contrary a palpable falsehood. I have not the honour to be acquainted with the Emperor of China, but I truly judge that he exists. It may be said, of course, that I judge this because of other people's acquaintance with him. This, however, would be an irrelevant retort, since, if the principle were true, I could not know that any one else is acquainted with him. But further: there is no reason why I should not know of the existence of something with which nobody is acquainted. This point is important, and demands elucidation. If I am acquainted with a thing which exists, my acquaintance gives me the knowledge that it exists. But it is not true that, conversely, whenever I can know that a thing of a certain sort exists, I or some one else must be acquainted with the thing. What happens, in cases where I have true judgement without acquaintance, is that the thing is known to me by description, and that, in virtue of some general principle, the existence of a thing answering to this description can be inferred from the existence of something with which I am acquainted. In order to understand this point fully, it will be well first to deal with the difference between knowledge by acquaintance and knowledge by description, and then to consider what knowledge of general principles, if any, has the same kind of certainty as our knowledge of the existence of our own experiences. The Truth About Idealism 

A is a unique model, it can be repeated over and over again. It is hard to imagine a better system than direct democracy with all decisions fixed on an immutable blockchain. At a glance, we can draw a few affirmative advantages: openness, honesty, transparency, freedom of speech, and will of all participants. DAO Theory tells us that DAO is the future. But in practice, that DAO, like all other models of management, is subject to cruel human hypocrisy and fraud. Recently we have noticed more and more cases of "breakdowns" of DAO systems: because of bribery of the majority, hacking, and other things. All of these problems are due to imperfect technology. In this article, we will look at several key challenges that we need to overcome in DAO. In order to get to a whole new level. Let's go. What is the root of the problem? If you don't know what we're talking about, we highly recommend reading the article about or, an by the DAOTimes. However, the whole point of the problem boils down to a few simple truths: How thieves are draining DAO funds in plain sight investigation Plutocracy, Misunderstanding of how to be a member, Corruption, Hacker attacks, Lack of understandable infrastructure. We will talk about each of these points separately. Taking Power from the Rich Plutocracy is an ancient problem throughout our society. The rich have had more power and opportunity than the poor throughout history. Not surprisingly, this problem is also present in DAOs. In most modern DAO management models there is an unspoken (or, on the contrary, very open) rule - the more tokens you have of a particular project, the stronger your vote is on the ballot. On the one hand, this makes logical sense. After all, a member could get these tokens at the very beginning of his journey with this organization. On the other hand, it has a lot more problems. After all, if a notional "rich man" wants to take control of an organization, he can simply buy a large number of tokens. In this way, power goes to a minority of the rich and powerful. Designing effective governance models that balance decentralization and effective decision-making is a major challenge. Ensuring fair voting mechanisms, preventing manipulation, and avoiding minority control are critical aspects that must be addressed to ensure the long-term success of the DAO. Not knowing how to be a member of the community Another big problem is ignorance. There is a whole set of problems, which at first seems imperceptible. DAO is not yet a prevalent system, so, often, members of such organizations simply do not know how it works. The big problem remains that many DAO participants remain passive. Many simply do not understand why they should vote, make suggestions, or just actively participate in the training. Often it boils down to "mindless" voting for the sake of some small bonuses. It is also important to understand that the DAO is a "living mechanism" that always requires activity: discussions, suggestions, and votes. So it's really important to show yourself. Many current DAO platforms lack user-friendly interfaces and suffer from a steep learning curve, limiting their accessibility to non-technical users. Improving the user experience, designing intuitive interfaces, and providing educational resources are crucial for encouraging broader participation in DAOs and attracting users from diverse backgrounds. So we come to an important part of every DAO's work - it's important to teach your members how to use the infrastructure of the organization properly: how to make proposals and draw attention to them, delegate, vote, etc. It is the DAO's duty to teach the members to be effective, not just random NPCs. Fraudsters, corrupt, and just boorish people Let's look at some examples of how corruption can be used in DAO. But not just corruption. The dark world of DAO has a large number of different sins. Here are some of them: In DAOs with voting mechanisms, there is a risk of collusion among members to manipulate voting outcomes in their favor. This can involve forming alliances, controlling a significant number of voting tokens, or exploiting loopholes in the governance system. Such collusion undermines the democratic principles of DAOs and can lead to unfair decision-making. Collusion and Vote Manipulation: DAOs typically manage funds in a decentralized manner, but there is a risk of misappropriation or embezzlement. Individuals with access to the funds may abuse their privileges, divert funds for personal gain, or engage in fraudulent activities. DAOs need to implement robust financial controls, audits, and transparency measures to mitigate these risks. Misappropriation of Funds: DAOs often have native tokens or assets associated with their ecosystem. Insiders or influential members may engage in insider trading by leveraging their access to privileged information. They can manipulate the market value of tokens, engage in pump-and-dump schemes, or exploit vulnerabilities for personal profit. Regulations and transparency measures can help mitigate these issues. Insider Trading and Market Manipulation: Governance capture occurs when external entities or individuals gain control or influence over the decision-making process in a DAO. This can happen through acquiring a significant number of voting tokens, influencing key stakeholders, or exploiting weaknesses in governance mechanisms. Safeguarding against governance capture requires active participation and vigilance from DAO members. Governance Capture: Sybil attacks occur when an individual or a group creates multiple fake identities or accounts within a DAO to gain disproportionate influence or control. By flooding the network with these fake identities, the attackers can manipulate voting results, governance decisions, or funding allocations. Robust identity verification mechanisms are crucial to prevent Sybil attacks. Sybil Attacks: Hackers do not sleep DAOs rely heavily on to automate processes and execute decisions. However, smart contracts can be prone to vulnerabilities and bugs, leading to potential security breaches and financial losses. Enhancing the security of smart contracts and performing rigorous audits to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities is critical for building trust and confidence in DAOs. smart contracts Finalizing Every technology has its own way of development. We have gone through hundreds of trials and errors in order to live in a better world: from huge computers with a couple of megabytes of power to today's 13 inches that can do (almost) anything. From engines that use fuel with lead to Tesla. It’s hard to consider DAOs a technology. But, they are a technological concept that appear to have passed the "problem-solving" test period. The only question is, can we find the right answers to the questions above in time?
