metric has value 1 when Prometheus can reach the pod to collect/scrape the metrics. It might be useful to monitor pod's readiness(in some case) if the scraping is done through the k8s service. But it causes a false positive when Prometheus scrapes directly from the pod. up This is the request flow when the metric scraping is done via Kubernetes service. In here, the kubernetes service work as a load balancer to route the scraping request to pods. So each time, Prometheus can collect the metric from 1 pod. But this setup will not be able to tell how many pods are ready. That's when scraping directly from pod comes into the picture With this topology, prometheus can reach all the pods and the metric of each pod will have the value 1, even when the pods are not in the ready state or their readiness probes are failed. This does not happen with the scraping through Kubernetes service because Kubernetes service won't send the request to un-ready pods, it returns 503 instead. up To avoid this false positive, we need to introduce a custom gauge metric which will indicate the readiness of the pod. I choose the descriptive name for that. But how do we update the value of the metric? pod_readiness In the above picture, I use one servlet filter to catch the HTTP response from the actuator and set the pod_readiness metric's value accordingly. Once the metric is collected from pods, we can design some Prometheus queries to monitor the number of ready pods and fire the alert if necessary. Cheers

This ensures that your setup is both portable and consistent, effectively eliminating the "it works on my machine" syndrome. The past few weeks I have talked about the benefits of , show notes, and a title on your reach. This week I will add another important variable to your grow equation: Social media - one of the best social media management tools for your podcast. transcripts SEO optimised Why Social Media Engagement is Essential Many people are not aware of the importance of social media posts, even though it seems to be at the heart of podcasting: Building an audience and connecting with people. Your listeners want to be entertained when they listen to you. You are the person they have chosen to spend the next 20 to however long your podcast is going to last with. So it makes sense that they want to be entertained during that time. Why not entertain them more often? It's you and your subject matter that people want to hear about. Think of them as fans, maybe that will help you see the bigger picture here. A logical reasoning would be that a fan likes to be entertained by the superstar. Common Concerns & The Solution "I don't have time," "I'm not comfortable on social media," "I already work and produce a podcast," - these are common concerns, and I completely understand. Try to connect with them on social media so they can see the content you share. People are friends with other people who usually have something in common. This means your chances are pretty good, or at least better than with a random person, that your listener's friends will like your content too. And that was your first step in building your audience. Personal Letter: Writes the article like a personal letter, sharing insights from the podcast. FAQ: Presents the content as a series of FAQs, useful for instructional or educational podcasts. Creating a Personal Brand The Personal Branding style is by far the most powerful. This makes the engagement more personal and helps you identify with the content. Starting to post on social media platforms will feel intimidating at first, but you will get used to it. Want to know how to make your podcast go viral? Start by engaging your audience, ask them what they'd love to hear, or conduct a quick poll. That's engagement and promoting your podcast at the same time without paying a penny. Well, you pay with your time, which is very valuable. That's why I created this service for you. In the beginning, you may need to tweak the content here and there because you are not used to it. But even then, tweaking a piece of content for five minutes compared to writing a whole article plus social media posts on LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram, which costs you at least a day, is a huge gain for your productivity. If you're wondering where I came up with the very specific figure of one day: I usually need at least 1.5 days. Currently, one article will be created. Each platform you want to post to has its own style, making it difficult to write a generic blog post. Ideally, you would need to tailor the article to the platform, but not with my tips. Optimizing Your Podcast SEO: Action Steps I'll give you some time-saving action steps for your podcast SEO: Post the generated article on your website, turning your podcast into a written piece. This is a critical step in driving organic search to your podcast. It also serves as a home for your transcripts and show notes. Share your articles in spaces where your audience frequents, like Facebook groups, Reddit, Discord servers, or Slack workspaces. Each tweet you share can also be leveraged in these channels. This way you do not need to adapt your article to the platform. When you post an article or a tweet, make sure you tag relevant people, guests or topics. This will give you further reach. Include a compelling CTA encouraging readers to check out your blog post. Aim to transform your followers into ambassadors by actively engaging with them. Check it out here: [insert link] #Podcast #Article #Guest #Theme Guidance for Newbie Podcasters: Measuring Success, Content Preferences & Balancing Tasks For those new to podcasting: To measure your social media efforts' success, consider tracking metrics like engagement rate, click-through rate, follower growth, and shares. Tools like Google Analytics, Buzzsumo, and Sprout Social can be handy. Content preference varies per platform. Twitter values concise, snappy posts, Instagram thrives on aesthetic images, while LinkedIn prefers professional and insightful content. Post frequency depends on your audience's behavior. Generally, 1-3 posts per day is acceptable. Balancing podcast production and social media promotion can be tricky. Prioritize tasks, delegate when possible, use social media content management tools, and try to automate processes where you can. A Small Change, A Big Impact: Unraveling the Hidden Influence of Your Podcast Titles on Audience Reach, Engagement, and the Overall Success of Your Show. Episode titles are often neglected, even though they add a lot of value. Not only for SEO, but also for users. This short issue explains why and shows you a tool that grades your title and generates optimized alternatives. Surely, you’ve heard of SEO and how much it helps your podcast grow, but how do you differentiate between people who are trying to sell you their latest product and what is actually helpful? I’ll touch on two points. The actual value of SEO for search engines The far more important value for listeners SEO: Increasing Your Content Visibility Online 🔎 SEO means Search Engine Optimization and describes how well a search engine finds your content. This can be a podcast, a website, or anything else that is online. Since I am developing tools for podcasters, I’ve come across a couple of podcasts. A good title should be the default, but I’ve seen many that do not put much weight on it. Episode 20, Episode 21, Ep 05, there are many variations. This is not very appealing even though the content might be great. I understand the trouble: preparing, recording, editing, and now a creative title? This might be annoying for some people. Imagine the best book with a non-expressive title: Book 1, Book 2, Book 3 — it won’t be a New York Times bestseller, don’t you think? Think of it that way: How should a search engine pick up on your great podcast without giving it something to work with? An SEO-friendly title is not a novel concept; nevertheless, it’s sometimes overlooked because it can be tedious and time-consuming. Creating a transcript would also help. You don’t come across many articles about UEO, so it’s a bit of a leap of faith, but the pieces fit together pretty well. User engagement describes how much a user engages with something. That can be physical or digital, it doesn’t matter, but to get people to interact with your content, you have to trigger something in them. There are many sides to this. One of them is known as “click baiting”, which is usually achieved by either inducing fear or making you, the user, feel like you’re missing out (FOMO, e.g., If you don’t read this … ). It’s the bad side of SEO and the internet. From ‘The Sea Cook’ to ‘Treasure Island’: A Lesson in User Engagement Optimization I’ll give you a positive example that’s actually super old! Have you ever heard of “Treasure Island”? An adventure novel about sailing, pirates, and buried gold, published in 1883. It’s a bestseller, but it didn’t start out that way. It had already been published as “The Sea Cook: A Story for Boys” in 1881. The book with that title was not particularly successful when it was first published. The title was probably changed to ‘Treasure Island’ because it better conveyed the adventure and intrigue of the story. The new title is more evocative and intriguing, suggesting a story of exploration, adventure, and, of course, treasure. Do you feel the difference? “Treasure Islands” sounds much more exciting to me. It’s a perfect example that showcases User Engagement Optimization. ✅ TLDR: A well-chosen episode title helps with SEO and UEO. Please do it.
